1. Invalid ‘Data Access Service SPN Not Registered’ entries in the ‘Operations Manager’ event log

As per Kevin Holman’s article entitled ‘OpsMgr 2012: What should the SPN’s look like?’ (i.e. https://kevinholman.com/2011/08/08/opsmgr-2012-what-should-the-spns-look-like/), please correct the following erroneous event log entries that are logged when the SDK service is restarted (and configured with an AD account):

Event Log: Operations Manager
Event ID: 26371
Event Source: OpsMgr SDK Service
Event Level: Warning
Event Description:

The System Center Data Access service failed to register an SPN. A domain admin needs to add MSOMSdkSvc/MS1 and MSOMSdkSvc/MS1.contoso.com to the servicePrincipalName of CN=MS1,CN=Computers,DC=contoso,DC=com

The events are still being logged, even in SCOM 2019.

Thank you,

3. catalog

Someone needs to properly start managing the SCOM catalog behind 'import management packs'.
Currently it's quite a mess/chaos:
- It contains MPs for obsolete products,
- The descriptions of many management packs make not completely clear which MP you should actually choose, sometimes there are several versions, etc
- Many Microsoft products are missing
- Some management packs are available on the internet but not in via the catalog
- There are sample entries in the catalog (in a production catalog environment?!)
- Some server roles seem to have multiple management packs or legacy dependencies because MPs are stacked and…

4. AudioCodes need to be support for SCOM 2016

We need to have the AudioCodes devices monitoring more metrics beside simple 'ICMP Ping' and 'SNMP Ping' function. The current certification property of the AudioCodes devices discovered by SCOM not Certified but Generic. In this way, SCOM can't capture any SNMP traps sent from AudioCodes.

6. Bring in Rule/Monitor to Alert on Windows Activation Status

Currently SCOM does not have the ability to monitor Windows Servers Activation Status in a Windows environment. There is no KMS MP either to supplement this Monitor. Bring this functionality back so SCOM can be used in place of a 3rd party tool.

7. Management Pack to monitor ADFS 2019 MP

HI, Brian Wren had mentioned that Microsoft would always have a Management Pack for every Microsoft product. Currently Microsoft does NOT have an MP to monitor ADFS

8. DFS Namespaces MP 10.0.0.0 Bug

There appears to be a bug in the "DFS Namespaces Role Service Discovery (Windows Server 2016 and 1709+)" discovery within this MP. On every server it runs on in my environment I get error 4511 from source "HealthService" in the agent log:

"Initialization of a module of type "RegistrySyncProbe" (CLSID "{472364F2-A1F0-41C0-9A8F-E00C92C2AB31}") failed with error code The parameter is incorrect. causing the rule "Microsoft.Windows.FileServer.DFSN.10.0.RoleServiceDiscovery" running for instance "SOMESERVER.mydomain.com" with id:"{982B451D-958B-EC97-1FCE-E04CA6402B58}" in management group "MyCompany"."

I'm not the only one seeing this, there is a thread created in January about this:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/fbc0ce74-ac57-4517-8704-ed6550e19aad/event-4511-healthservice-initialization-of-a-module-of-type-quotregistrysyncprobequot?forum=systemcenter

I'll be disabling this discovery in my environment until this…

9. LVM

There is no monitoring above the physical volume for linux. I do realize that LVM is software management above the physcial volume and is centric to Linux thus not a standard health across both OS (Linux and Windows) but this topic came up as LVM is a standard for linux that was question why SCOM doesn't have a MP for it, but other Linux Monitoring Platforms does (e.g. Zabbix)

This will help to provide such MP in the Linux stack to show Microsoft is keeping thier promise that Microsoft loves linux.

10. UNIX/LINUX OS Sub versions update needs to be reflected

when ever UNIX/LINUX OS Subversions are updated, SCOM should reflect the subversion automatically on SCOM UI. for example currently we are monitoring SUSE 12.3, as part of upgrade team has upgraded to 12.4 this version never reflect on SCOM UI until we remove the server from SCOM, and re-discover.
this needs to be fixed.

11. Group Policy Update Monitor False alerts

Group Policy Update Monitor is throwing false alerts.I am using ADDS for windows server 2016 Monitoring MP 10.0.2.2. I have checked the script in background-

GroupPolicyCheck.vbs

Option Explicit

SetLocale("en-us")

Sub Main()

Dim oAPI, oBag, oShell, oShellExec, iResult, iInterval

Set oAPI = CreateObject("Mom.ScriptAPI")
Set oBag = oAPI.CreatePropertyBag()

On Error Resume Next

Set oShell = CreateObject("Wscript.Shell")
iResult = oShell.Run("gpupdate", 0, true)

if (iResult <> 0) Then

Set oShellExec = oShell.Exec("gpupdate")

wscript.Echo oShellExec

for iInterval = 0 to 30

if oShellExec.Status = 0 then
oBag.AddValue "State", "BAD"
oBag.AddValue "ErrorString", "Group Policy failed to refresh properly. Gpupdate output: " & vbCrLf &

12. Add forecasting to reports

We are migrating our environment off prem to a hosted environment and will lose the ability to access VM data. This will make SCOM our most critical monitoring platform. I'm sure many other companies are in the same position.

It would be great to have the option within performance reporting such as disk/memory to forecast usage as it will be our only source of data for capacity management. I can also see benefits for incident prevention as well.

13. Incorporate sudo lines for unix/linux agents in the documentation and don't change with every version

Every new unix/linux scom agent requires changes in all sudo config files.Why? Just keep you'r installers to run with the same name.
Also it's totally unclear which sudo lines you should use. It would be awsome if you download the managementpack that all documentation will be included with track changes off and all the info you need for the use of it.

14. Kerberos or something else authentication for AIX scx-agents

Kerberos authentication for Linux was a step forward. But this option is not available for AIX agents. So AIX monitoring is left with basic auth which isn't very good, to say the least.

You need to provide some kind of modern athentication for all platforms supported.

15. deploy MP custom to a spécific group

it'll be nice deploying custom MPs to specific group so as to avoid sending MP to all machines
It'll reduces network flow especially for virtual environnement.
Avoid latencies NAS, network etc...

18. Description Bug: MSSQL on Windows: Some securables are inaccessible

In the MSSQL on Windows: Some securables are inaccessible alert the Alert description states that the following objects are views;
- msdb.dbo.sysjobschedules
- msdb.dbo.log_shipping_primary_databases
- msdb.dbo.log_shipping_secondary_databases

These are actually Tables in MSDB. This can be confusing for non-SQL SCOM admins when trying to troubleshoot and resolve issues

This should be updated to reflect that they are tables not views.

19. Bug in Microsoft System Center Management Pack for AD CS 2016 Management Pack

There is a bug in this Management Pack which causes it to fail when TLS 1.2 is enforced. The error is:

Topology10.0Discovery.vbs : Unable to connect to the database with the specified configuration string. Please make sure that your connection string is valid and that your credentials are authorized to access the database. Cause: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (SECCreateCredentials()).]SSL Security error.

The bug in the discovery is in Topology10.0Discovery.vbs in this line of code:

GetOpsMgrDBConnectionString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=" & sDBServerName & ";Initial Catalog=" & sDBName & ";Integrated Security=SSPI;"

Provider=SQLOLEDB fails when TLS 1.2 is enforced. Per this article, it should be updated:

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/kevinjustin/2017/11/08/sql-native-client-for-tls1-2/

20. User-made custom Rules/Monitors Exports

Provide an options to view all "user-made" custom rules/monitors and the ability to export it out to CSV. That would be really helpful.
