1. [PG Feedback] SCOM Management Pack needing Version update and Feature updates

All - This poll is from SCOM Product Group. As a SCOM user, you would be using a lot of MPs and some of them could be outdated in terms version, monitors, rules and features. We are looking to revive Management Pack as a whole and we want to hear your feedback on the below topics.

1. What are top 5 MPs (in terms of usage) used at your SCOM infra?

2. Which top 5 MPs critically need version update (agnostic)?

3. What are the top 3 issues that arise on MPs (in general)?

4. What are top 3 workloads for which MPs are…

2. Red Hat 8 needs to be supported in SCOM 2016 ASAP!

Red Hat 8 needs to be supported in SCOM 2016 ASAP. It is not acceptable to not provide an MP that covered RHAT 8.
If we moved to SCOM 2019 we'd loose the ability to monitor our existing RHAT 5 and 6 servers so would be in an even worse situation that we are now with 2016.

4. Make scheduled maintenance mode follow DST

Scheduled maintenance modes are off by one hour every time we go to/come from Daylight Saving Time, requiring manual editing of all the schedules.
Kevin Holman created a very useful script to workaround that issue, but it still need to be ran every time we change time.
The scheduled maintenace mode should be able to adjust automatically to DST!

5. SCOM 2019 UR1: AppAdvisor and AppDiagnostics with Edge

AppAdvisor and AppDiagnostics fail to load with Edge as the browser.

It fails with the following errors:

Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.0 or higher is required for Application Advisor.

Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.0 or higher is required for Application Diagnostics.

This functionality should be fully supported in Chromium-based browsers. With Internet Explorer being phased out, I'm a little surprised to see this.

6. Support for SCOM Reporting feature as Highly Available / Scale out deployment

We seem to be using a Legacy design for SCOM Reporting as SCOM reporting from 2012 - 2019 does not have the option for Scale out deployment / Highly Available setup.

From the documents provided by Microsoft, SCOM does not support hosting Reporting SQL database on Always ON or SQL Clustered database engine instance.

Above was from a SQL prospective, However SCOM reporting component its self is not a Highly Available setup.

Can the product group keep this in consideration for SCOM 2016 / 2019 future updates ?

7. solaris

Support for TLS 1.2 (and likely 1.3) in Solaris 10 agent. Currently this doesn't work and the agent needs a recompile to resolve the issue.

8. Allow special characters in Linux script outputs

The current Linux agent parser does not allow for special characters when reading the output.

For example, "df: ‘/tmp/tmp2’: No such file or directory" will cause the parser to crash with an "unprintable characters" error in /var/opt/microsoft/scx/log/scx.log. Note the "special" single quotes; this is what causes the error.

Because the parser stops, the SCOM server never gets anything back from the agent. Removing the special characters resolves the issue.

10. Groups Renaming Issue in SCOM 2019 UR1

(Awaiting a Fix for the Group rename issue)
Renaming a Group in SCOM 2019 UR1 will change the name in the console, but using the PowerShell still returns the old name of the group. Therefore, if we need to use or refer the group somewhere in Service Monitoring or notifications, we don't see the new name (it's still the old name)

12. SCCM Reporting issue : Not showing user names along with device name

We have one internal application which we always deploy for device collection and the installation behavior is install for system
Recently we tried to pull report but not seeing user names along with device name hence contacted Microsoft
Microsoft answer is install behavior should be install for user only will get the user name along with device name, this option will not allow SCCM to install application if the user logoff but we need application should install if user is login or log off
We have been following same method since last 3 years and we presented to Microsoft also…

13. Bug in System.ExpressionFilter module

System.ExpressionFilter module incorrectly process data with Duration type. The module considers that negative duration is greater than positive. As example, this construction returns true but logically it should return false:
<ConditionDetection ID="CD" TypeID="System!System.ExpressionFilter">
<Expression>
<SimpleExpression>
<ValueExpression>
<Value Type="Duration">PT1S</Value>
</ValueExpression>
<Operator>Less</Operator>
<ValueExpression>
<Value Type="Duration">-PT1S</Value>
</ValueExpression>
</SimpleExpression>
</Expression>
</ConditionDetection>

16. Fix the predefined command line parameters for the Command Notification Channel wizard settings

When creating a Command Notification Channel under the Administration pane in the console, the predefined command line parameters for "WebConsole Alert Link" and "WebConsole Alert Source Link" given in the auxiliary menu for command line parameters is incorrect. It appears the Syntax has errors.

When attempting to add for either of these presets we get:

$Target/Property[Type="Notification!Microsoft.SystemCenter.AlertNotificationSubscriptionServer"]/WebConsoleUrl$/#/monitoring/drilldown/alert/$UrlEncodeData/Context/DataItem/AlertId$

And

$Target/Property[Type="Notification!Microsoft.SystemCenter.AlertNotificationSubscriptionServer"]/WebConsoleUrl$/#/monitoring/drilldown/object/$UrlEncodeData/Context/DataItem/ManagedEntity$

The problem is the last part of each of these statements:

$UrlEncodeData/Context/DataItem/ManagedEntity$

Which should be formatted as

$Data/Context/DataItem/ManagedEntity$

The problematic form is incorrect and does not yeaild the epected information, however it is a predefined preset built into the UI.

17. Alert "Severity" and "Priority" does not show the exact value in Email notifications in SCOM 2016 & 2019

When an Email Alert is generated from SCOM, The Alert subject line & Email body display the Alert "Severity" and "Priority" in the form of numbers. I.e # Severity 0,1,2 instead of mentioning the actual severity

Severity : Critical , Warning or Information

Priority : High, Medium or Low

It is a bit difficult for end user to remember which number represents what. It would great to see a fix for this on a future UR.

18. Bring in Rule to Monitor/collect Top Processes in Memory/CPU utilization and make it available in Reporting

Bring in Rule to Monitor/collect Top Processes in Memory/CPU utilization and make it available in Reporting

Server Administrators usually request us for the Top utilizers of CPU/RAM for a Particular Time.
This data will be useful for them to investigate the Cause of Performance issues.

We must have a report wherein when we select the time and Server name , It should show the Top Processes using memory/cpu.

19. Ability to turn off alerts not able to be closed in SCOM 2019

We need to be able to disable the feature preventing alerts from being closed if the monitor is in an unhealthy state.

As it currently stands integration with a Service desk such as Netcool is problematic as if the alert is closed in the service desk when the writeback happens to SCOM the chain breaks as the alert cannot always be closed in SCOM.

Feature below:

If you close an alert generated by a monitor (from the Operations Console “Active alerts” view) which is in a unhealthy state then the following message will be displayed and the alert will not…

20. A Maintenance schedules schedule created by an operator should adhere to scoping rules

When an operator creates a maintenance schedules schedule this is only visible to that person. As a result this can also only be changed by that person.
Only when an administrator creates a schedule this is visible to other administrators.

It would be good that when an operator creates a schedule this is visible by members of his user role or even better it adheres the scoping structure. This would allow colleagues of the same team to modify schedules.
