Please take a few minutes to submit your idea in the one of the forums available on the right or vote up an idea submitted by another SCOM customer. All of the feedback you share in these forums will be monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building SCOM. We have already added some of the feedback we received through the TAP program and the recent SCOM survey.

This forum (General Feedback) is used for any broad feedback related to SCOM.
Be specific on your feedback. The more specific, the easier and quicker for us to review. Please be concise!!

  1. Develop Office 365 Synthetic Transaction Management Pack

The official Office 365 Management Pack is only covering the (Microsoft)Data Center view of the availability of Office 365 services. It provides no information on an end user's perception of the availability of the services.
In order to do this, I have created a custom management pack that provides a framework for synthetic transactions that can be run from SCOM Agent computers against Exchange and SharePoint Online. I also have created some synthetic transactions as an example on how to get these up and running: External MailFlow (ExO), Calendar Access (ExO), Up-and Download Files to SPO.
    There has been a…

  2. Invoke-SCXDiscovery cmdlet need to support referencing SCOM RunAs accounts

Currently there is no way to leverage a built in RunAs account that is pre-configured in SCOM to use Invoke-SCXDiscovery cmdlet, while it is possible to reference that when pushing an agent via the console. Inability to rely on SCOM RunAs accounts requires keeping another copy of the credentials together with the script, which in turn adds some overhead with regards to keeping those creds secure and in consistence with the SCOM store.

  3. Let us send notifications when 3-state monitor changes state

A LOT of companies (all my customers) have a workflow where they have Warning being the proactive alert and Critical being the "send to on-call" staff alert.

The problem is that SCOM only trigger a notification when the alert is created or when it is switching resolution state. This means that if an alert is sent to the low-prio channel when the 3-state monitor raises a Warning alert, no notification will ever be sent to the high-prio channel as the alert transitions to Critical.

This is, honestly, such a basic notification strategy that ANY OTHER monitoring product i've used handles…

  4. ServiceNow ITSM Integration

A native SCOM to ServiceNow ITSM integration to enable creation of tickets to the correct support team with alert/incident being resolved from either end i.e. if an operator closes an alert in SCOM, the corresponding ServiceNow incident should also be closed, and likewise, if the Incident is resolved in the ServiceNow incident, the corresponding SCOM alert should also be closed.

ServiceNow has become a popular ITSM solution and the ability to close-the-gap between alert generation in SCOM and incident/ticket raising in ServiceNow without having to invest in a third-party tool is vital.

  5. Open Source your Management Packs

It’s a well-known problem that MPs are way too noisy and that customers spend most of their time tuning the damn things. All that noise also means that the first thing ordinary SCOM users get is bombarded with emails / noise, which causes those users to disengage from using SCOM right from the very outset.

In terms of best practices, it is customers who operate and run these MPs at scale and who therefore have the real-world knowledge of what's needed from the MPs when running them in Production, much more so than disconnected development teams.

    Right now, there's no…

  6. Reduce CPU impact for SCOMpercentageCPUTimeCounter script

The SCOMpercentageCPUTimeCounter (vbs or ps1) used by Agent processor utilization rule and monitor runs on each agent every 5 minutes (321 sec) and with a sync time set to 00:00.

This causes CPU spike on virtualization hosts.

  8. Bug in "Microsoft Windows Server SMB 2012 R2" Management Pack

There is a Bug in the "Microsoft Windows Server SMB 2012 R2" Management Pack in the Script "CheckFirewallPort.vbs" of the Monitoring Rule "Server Service: Firewall Status": it only checks directly for the String "File and Printer Sharing" in the Firewall Rules - which does not work in localized Windows Versions, as on my German 2008R2 Installations this would need to be "Datei- und Druckerfreigabe" - please assist

  10. Remove All SCOM Disabled Class Instances

When a Discovery is disabled by Default, SCOM will not remove the class instances unless the discovery has an override which sets the parameter "Enabled" to "false".

The Command Remove-SCOMDisabledClassInstances should be able to remove ALL SCOM Discoveries which there isn't an active discovery for or at least have the ability to (Switch Parameter?)

  11. Allow Powershell script in Agent task

Currently only vbs is supported, when creating Agent based task. For now, PS is mostly installed on all recent OS please implement support for adding Powershell scripts here.
You can mark it somehow- to distinguish VBS/PS based tasks, so users are not running ( or know and accepts) it on systems which do not support PS.

  13. Use Group Managed Service Account for Windows Run As accounts

Allow Group Managed Service Accounts as Run As Accounts.

Managing Passwords of RunAs Accounts can be a pain, why not using Group Managed Service Accounts for Windows account type.

  14. 4K Resolution support for SCOM console

SCOM console seems to not fully support 4K resolution. If you open overrides window the enable checkboxes are hidden and many other views are not aligned properly.

  15. iPhone, Android or Windows Phone App

A mobile phone and tablet app that an on-call operator can use to receive notifications on and see meaningful information for those objects they have Scope to view is missing.

Within the app, the operator should be able to acknowledge, close or escalate an alert, drill-down into the Health Explorer and see views, dashboards similar to what they have been scoped to have access to from their User Role membership and Subscriptions.

  17. Read-Only Administrator Role

There should be a Read-Only Administrator Role that allows the viewing of all the useful views and dashboards in the SCOM Admin pane, but without the ability to perform actions such as run tasks etc.

Our scenario is that we have regulators that say because tasks can be performed against a server (and so someone could, if they want, maliciously run code through SCOM to do something bad to a server), we have to record these sessions and have the accounts managed via tools such as CyberArk.

The issue here is that all of the roles from SCOM Administrator down…

  20. Windows Certificate Monitoring in SCOM.

    Hi Team,

I believe now a days its very common to use Certificates for secure communication including SCOM.

Its surprising we don't have any Mgmt Pack to monitor the same. However, we have third party mgmt. pack already but none is certified yet. I believe there should be certified Mgmt Pack.

    Third Party:
