  1. Maintenance Mode with levels

Add diffrent Level of MaintenanceMode, Some time you wan't to set a server or application, into maintenance "Hard", Today, when you have setup a Mantenance for exampel over the weekend, and if something/one other person is activate a new maintenance for a group that the servers belong, the last set or maintenance time is set.
And the servers/app that should be in maintenancemode for the weekend, is in maintenance for less time.
So if possible add Maintenance level like SOFT | HARD . where SOFT is possible to override, but not HARD state.

  2. Update the 2007 Authoring Console tool

The 2007 MP Authoring Console for SCOM 2008 R2 was a very easy to use GUI driven tool. I know I can use MP Author, Visual Studio, etc...but this tool was SO much more intuitive and easier for MP authoring and editing. We need a 2012/2016 version to work with the new MP schema of 2012 MPs.

  3. Automation in SCOM, like a builtin Orchestrator feature

What I would like is: Orchrestrator and Operations Manager in one product. With the features and functionality of Orchstrator I can automate process. I can link the automatic process to a monitor or rule without need of a separate Orchestrator environment.

I know this is possible with PowerShell and Notification Channel, but with a builtin Orchestrator and Runbook would be easier to automate some processes without a separate environment.

  6. Agent Discovery Data: CreateDiscoveryData accepts on source and target directly a GUID

CreateDiscoveryData accepts on source and target directly a GUID not only a COM object. To create Containment or Reference Relationship It is not every time possible to get all Primary key of an object that is not hosted on the target machine. The Best thing whould be that the scom agent has nativly the ability to query the scom Server like with the sdk.

  7. Moving views from My WorkSpace to the Monitoring Tree

Creating test views in My workspace is much fast to PoC and see how it behaves, and it doesn’t slow down the server. When done, you could right click and move it to the main View Tree for final deployment.

  8. Search when picking rules for dashboard

When you are creating a performance view for specific rules, you are presented with this huge list which has no specific naming convention. Using the same dialog as the rules for notification might help.

  9. Enhance disk space monitoring to be more dynamic

It would be great if the SCOM system checks dynamically the volume size (percent and MB) and adjusts the thresholds according to a list which was defined by Microsoft and is adjustable by override.

  10. Shared Knowledge Base Management Pack

Create a TechNet and/or MS Forum MP that collects solutions from the SCOM userbase on MP alerts, overrides, etc.

  11. Allow for consolidated distributed application views across multiple SCOM instances

Allow for an hierarchal SCOM instance structure (e.g. servers in a region report to a regional instance, regional instances report to a global instance) - not just for alerts - but for distributed application model views as well. Allow for flexibility on what is passed up the chain of SCOM instances. I'm failry new to SCOM so not sure if this support is already there (beyond alerts only, and without having multi-homed agents)

  12. Allow the PowerShell framework to be modular and upgradeable with RUx

Please add more PowerShell support and integration - as well as allowing administrators to keep the framework up to date.

  13. Monitor must change its state to something different than Healthy in any situations when it cannot be executed or executed with error.

Monitor must change its state to something different than Healthy in any situations when it cannot be executed or executed with error (unloaded, timeout, and so on). Currently it`s state remains Healthy even if its script never executed successfully.

  14. Have a contextual performance widgets out of the box available for dashboards

We've seen wonderful new Management Packs as the new SQL MP & Exchange 2013 MP.
Using their own Visualization Management Pack to show contextual performance widgets in their dashboards.

It would be nice if we had more of this new visualization out of the box available, not only for performance but also in general for state views as Exchange 2013 uses.

Some custom examples are already out there from Wei Out There (and they are so cool :)) :

  15. Easy way to create an override ("buddy") pack, named CORRECTLY, from within the "Override Properties" screen.

All too often I see sloppy unsealed/custom miscellaneous MPs named something like "contoso - Windows Server custom stuff" or "operations server team", and in that MP will be overrides for various workflows which are defined in various separate management packs thus creating numerous dependencies, which is the opposite of best/recommended practice for storing overrides. I suggest adding one or more of the following features:

    1) In the Override Properties window->Select destination management pack, upon clicking "New..." , auto-populate the Name: field with a properly spelled/titled MP name suggestion based upon the name of the base MP for the targeted workflow.…

  16. Allow for management servers be excluded from All Management Servers resource pool without breaking automatic membership for new servers.

For proxies that use Management Servers as their base (Veeam Collectors), removing them from the all management servers resource pool breaks automatic membership for new management servers. It would be nice to have a way to mark management servers somehow to NOT be included in the all management servers resource pool, perhaps by an attribute, so that new servers will still be included in that resource pool.

  17. Keyboard shortcuts

Sometimes there is a lot of alerts to manage : some of them to close, some to set resolution state, some to reset monitor health... I would like to use keyboard shortcut to go faster ! Something like Alt + R, Alt + C, Ctrl + W ...

  18. Add a column for maintenance mode under the Agent Managed view in Administration

Often when scanning through the agent-managed view in the Administration tab I will see agents that are grayed-out. I then have to go to the Monitoring Tab and look under "Windows Servers" in order to see if they are gray because they are in maintenance mode.

It would be nice to be able to see this under Administration as well so that I can easily tell if there is something wrong with an agent.

  19. Better agent failover configuration options.

Better agent failover configuration options. Maybe leverage resource pools to build failover associations.

i.e. An agents failover association would be automatically managed by a failover group. A failover group could be a resource pool just renamed with a prefix. The agent would point to a primary management server. That primary management server would exist in a failover group with all other management servers that service that failover group. The failover object can be built by looking up what failover group an agents primary management server is in and then using all servers in that group minus it's primary management server

  20. Extend Java Discovery and Monitoring beyond Java Enterprise

Currently Java backed monitoring leverages the "beanSpy" application to expose the Java Management eXtension for the running application hosted on services including JBOSS, etc.

However not all business applications are hosted on these platforms, but instead run natively on the JVM interpreter. These applications continue to expose their monitoring details via JMX and should also be monitored from SCOM. Attaching solutions like Jolokia to the runspace will expose JMX to HTTP/JSON which can be easily consumed, or beanspy could be updated to accomplish similar integrations.
