  1. SCOM 2016/2019 Operations Console on Windows Server Core, cannot import management packs from disk

I believe to have found a bug when attempting to import management packs from disk when using the Operations Console on a Server Core. (Note: Using the Operations Console from a remote computer that is not Server Core works).

    Scenario:

    • SCOM 2016 and 2019

    • Windows Server 2019 Server Core (Have not yet verified with Windows Server 2016 Server Core).

    • The "ServerCore.AppCompatibility~~~~0.0.1.0" Features on Demand (FOD) has been installed.

    • Management server & Operations Console features installed.

When using the Operations Console on the Windows Server 2019 Server Core computer, and when attempting to import management packs from local disks, you receive…

  2. Alert "Severity" and "Priority" does not show the exact value in Email notifications in SCOM 2016 & 2019

When an Email Alert is generated from SCOM, The Alert subject line & Email body display the Alert "Severity" and "Priority" in the form of numbers. I.e # Severity 0,1,2 instead of mentioning the actual severity

Severity : Critical , Warning or Information

Priority : High, Medium or Low

It is a bit difficult for end user to remember which number represents what. It would great to see a fix for this on a future UR.

  4. "Time Skew Monitor" in Active Directory MP generates false alerts with low threshold

The "Time Skew Monitor" in the AD MP is based on an LDAP query of the local machine as well as the remote PDC. These are done back to back, but also have retries (and delays) built in. With this design, if either server is busy and takes some time to process the command, or if there are connectivity issues that require retries, all of this additional time is potentially included in the calculated skew. This can lead to the calculated skew being many seconds larger than the actual skew between the machines. This issue has lead to lots of…

  5. Manually run an Object Discovery

Give within the SCOM console the ability to run an Object Discovery manually with a simplified wizard. In the wizard you can select the group of systems where the discovery need to run on and run the discovery manually.

  7. When an SCOM Agent's Operations System undergoes In-place upgrade, Post upgrade duplicate objects are seen in SCOM related to the Agent

When an SCOM Agent's Operations System undergoes In-place upgrade, Post upgrade duplicate objects are seen in SCOM related to the Agent

In this example Duplicate Disks, Network adapters can been seen. Kevin Holman has blogged about this topic as well - https://kevinholman.com/2019/07/01/do-you-have-duplicate-logical-disks-in-scom/#:~:text=It%20isn't%20terribly%20harmful,in%20SCOM%20as%20a%20whole.

It would be great to have a design change to handle this internally within SCOM rather than Administrators deleting and re-approving the same in the SCOM console.

Lot of manual validation needs to be done as follows:

    1. Once the Agent is deleted, We have to wait to a day for the Agent to be groomed automatically to…

  8. Monitor Schedule Reports

I miss a standard monitor for configured scheduled reports, like execute with error or not execute on configured time.

  11. "Web Console"

The HTML Web Console should have the same display features as the full client, for all monitoring views:
-The views should display all the columns that are defined
    -All columns should be sortable
-The views should allow for personalization
-The user should be able to resize the columns

  13. add documentation to the managementpacks

On the download page for microsoft official managementpacks some packs have documentation to download. Some have them incorperated in the msi, some have documentation on the download page, some have no documentation, like update services 2016.
It would be nice if it was all the same and if i always can find documentation

  15. create a SCOM 2019 UR1 integrated installer to allow for GMSA

Currently you have to install SCOM 2019 then upgrade to UR1 and then change all accounts to GMSA. This means duplication of effort and multiple accounts. If you want to add a new MS you still need the old sdk and action accounts. We need a new installer so that GMSA accounts can be used from the beginning.

  16. SCOM2019 HTML Notifications To Support Escaped Characters

SCOM2019 HTML Email Notifications is great feature.

BUT there is an issue if html escaped characters appear in Alert Description (for example) - alert email notification will be truncated and this is frustrating.

Some kind of computation like $AlertDescriptionHTML = [System.Net.WebUtility]::HtmlEncode($AlertDescription) must be supported in the notification workflows!!

  19. Allow special characters in Linux script outputs

The current Linux agent parser does not allow for special characters when reading the output.

For example, "df: ‘/tmp/tmp2’: No such file or directory" will cause the parser to crash with an "unprintable characters" error in /var/opt/microsoft/scx/log/scx.log. Note the "special" single quotes; this is what causes the error.

Because the parser stops, the SCOM server never gets anything back from the agent. Removing the special characters resolves the issue.

  20. SCCM Reporting issue : Not showing user names along with device name

We have one internal application which we always deploy for device collection and the installation behavior is install for system
Recently we tried to pull report but not seeing user names along with device name hence contacted Microsoft
Microsoft answer is install behavior should be install for user only will get the user name along with device name, this option will not allow SCCM to install application if the user logoff but we need application should install if user is login or log off
We have been following same method since last 3 years and we presented to Microsoft also…
