  1. The IP Address for a Linux Computer does not get updated

After updating the IP addresses for my Linux computers, I noticed that the IP Address attribute for the computer object in SCOM did not get updated. Even after waiting many days, the address does not get updated. The only way to update the IP Address in SCOM is to remove the agent and re-install.

  2. Notify on duplicate snmp engine id

Monitoring ~500 network devices and have sometimes an issue with a device being greyed out while SNMP seems to be working fine. Underlying cause is mostly a duplicate snmp engine id which causes the SNMPv3 communication to break with an usmStatsNotInTime report from the device.

The fix is mostly easy but finding the cause is hard as the SNMP module does not give any clues on what's wrong and everyting we test seems to work (SNMP GET from console, probing outside of SCOM, etc.).

It would be very helpfull if the SNMP module would give something like a warning event…

  3. Make SCOM all functionalities working in a full Kerberos environment

Make SCOM all functionnalities working in a full Kerberos environment

We have implemented NTML restriction in our AD envionment because of a prioritized recommendation in the Azure AD Security assessment : Place privileged users in the Protected Users Group. The protected users groups provides additional security, because users can only authenticate using Kerberos (everything else is blocked) and hardenning is applied to the Kerberos authentication used by enforcing AES encryption.
BUT placing privileged users in Protected Users Group or implementing authentication policy to restrict usage of NTLM on admin accounts make SCOM loosing some functionalities.

  4. Problem with granular user rights

Our technical teams and application owners are members of the built-in "Operations Manager Read-Only Operators" role and therefore can see all objects in SCOM. Now I want to grant some teams access to some groups and allow them to put theirs systems into maintenance mode. For that I created a new role based on the Operators role and limited the group scope to just the group they should get higher pivileges on.
I've then added user accounts to the newly createed user role and tested access via the SCOM Web console. To my surprise, they now have operator access to…

  5. Azure Management should Include Availability based Alert on Azure PAAS services in the Azure MP

We see in the Azure SCOM MP, For PAAS services I.e Postgres, MySQL and Web Site resources and other PAAS services, do not have an Alert which represents the Availability of the service as overall is it up or down. Even though we have an option to select "Generate Alert" in the Authoring wizard during the discovery, they are threshold based and not Availability based. It would be good to see this enhancement in future on the Azure SCOM Management pack for PAAS services to have an Alert which represents Availability for the PAAS components.

  6. It would be great to see the built-in Service Monitor template expose overridable parameters to include frequency and samples.

It would be great to see the built-in Service Monitor template expose overridable parameters to include frequency and samples.
Currently the built-in service monitors are hard coded to (2) Samples and (30) Seconds, so after only (1) minute of the service being down an alert will trigger. If we could expose the parameters to override and customize the samples and frequency it would be helpful.

  7. Office 365 Management Pack - Message Center Messages alerts - Add service name in CustomField

Add service name in CustomFiled in alerts generated by:
Office 365 Message Center Critical alerting rule c09f34a1-bffa-afd1-3a07-09c9cc494faa
Office 365 Message Center Informational alerting rule e511de2a-d28b-2450-e13f-91d548155a0a
Office 365 Message Center Warning alerting rule 64587b02-882f-db25-02cd-4fa5a7775283
Office 365 Planned Maintenance Message alerting rule a9fe7f2d-34fd-3565-f6f2-4f0ec1212dc9

Similar to: Office 365 Incidents alerting rule 86b003f4-e6f0-0108-57b6-38315c6524ea

Additionally it would be great to add Incident type in alerts generated by the Office 365 Incidents alerting rule. In Message center we can see incidents of Advisory or Incident type. In SCOM both Advisory and Incidents are resulting with the same type of alert.

  8. Allow the creation of Access Profiles

Currently, Operations Manager only allows access management with User Roles which are based on a predefined profile. These profiles are not changeable (which is fine), but there is not possibility to create your own Access Profile. Now, you either have to provide users with too much acccess or with too little.
Example: I can only provide a user role acccess base on the Operators profile but not allow them access to a part of the Adminstration tab (like Device Management to approve Pending Agents) without giving the full Administration access.

It would be a nice feature to allow the creation…

  9. Ability to install/uninstall/delete SCOM agents without being a full SCOM Admin

We would like to see a role/permissions setting to install\uninstall\delete SCOM agents without being a full SCOM Admin. Other IT engineers can add/remove SCOM agents without having to engage a SCOM Admin to do this for them.

  10. Agent task initiation fails if ANY object is grey (when multiple objects selected)

    Steps to reproduce:
Multi-select a group of objects/targets. Example: Agent (from Agents by Version state view)
Launch Task: "Flush Health Service State and Cache"
Symptom: Task initiation will fail for ALL targets if any one object is grey.

This is incredibly annoying when selecting large groups of objects as it is incredibly tedious to scroll through the sluggish Console to UNselect any grey items.

  12. System Center 2019 Management Pack for JEE Application Servers not working

We're using management pack version 10.19.1123.0.
And we're using JBoss EAP 6.4.23.GA (AS 7.5.23.Final-redhat-00002)

And we're installing JBoss in domain mode, so this happens on host controllers.

The first thing we've discovered is that the vb script inside the MP uses a NET3.5 library. NET3.5 is default not installed on Windows Server 2019. The following is the dependency:

    CreateObject("System.Collections.ArrayList")

After we install NET3.5 the script still fails now on the following error:

\Microsoft.JEE.JBoss.7.Discover.2019.vbs(1056, 1) Microsoft VBScript runtime error: Type mismatch: 'CInt'

Output is: JBoss EAP 6.4.23.GA (AS 7.5.23.Final-redhat-00002)

    ElseIf CInt(Left(objConfigurationInfo.Version, 1)) >= 5 Then

The result is: the letter 'J'…

  14. Ubuntu 20 is not yet supported in SCOM 2019.

Ubuntu 20 was first released in April 2020 but is not yet supported in SCOM 2019. The number of servers migrating to Ubuntu 20 has increased a lot in the last months and we don't have it monitored by SCOM. You should provide it urgently

  15. Use the Perl RegEx engine everywhere in SCOM

Modify the RegEx engine leveraged by the expression filters (& possibly elsewhere in SCOM) from the .NET Framework RegEx engine, to the Perl engine that is leveraged by the group calculator module. Doing so would bring the following benefits:

    1 - Consistency in the interpretation of regular expressions throughout SCOM;
2 - A more flexible experience using regular expressions in the context of expression filters, as the Perl engine offers support for RegEx functionality that is not available with the .NET Framework engine, such as the support for certain "Character Classes" (ex.: \d for digit) & "Assertions" (i.e. [Negative] Look(ahead|behind)).

  16. Stop dictating how customers use your product

Scom was terrible anyways, now you dictate what alerts we cannot close. This removes the ability for us to move forward with our upgrade. Why you made a change for one person that effects thousands of others shows your intelligence. The feature needs to be disabled. Whoever decided this was a good idea needs to be fired immediatley

  17. SCOM support for LDAPs (Port 636)

As per Microsoft official documentation. "Configuring a Firewall for Operations Manager" at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/scom/plan-security-config-firewall?view=sc-om-2019 it is clearly called out that SCOM doesnt support LDAPs.

"Operations Manager uses port 389 for LDAP queries for multiple actions such as agent discovery, active directory integration, etc. Operations Manager does not support LDAPs."

Certain client (Banking and Financial Services to be in particular) aren't ready to allow any insecure connection including LDAP (Port 389).

  18. Multi Subnet Failover availability for SCOM 2019

SCOM 2019 with OpsDB on AllwaysOn SQL Server is not Multi Subnet capable. Both nodes of the AllwaysOn server are located in different data centers. If the AllwaysOn failover to the passive node for whatever reason, SCOM loses the connection. He must ask the DNS server until it returns the active node behind the listener name. Unfortunately, this can take longer and the SCOM console does not work during this time. Very ugly! We are in the process of setting up a load balancer from F5 so that the SCOM server receives the response which is the active node behind…

  19. Option to allow SCOM Admins to grant Advance Operators the ability to view other AO's Maintenance Schedules

Provide the option for SCOM Administrators to allow roles such as Advanced Operators to view but not edit existing maintenance schedules. This functionality would be beneficial to some customers as it would allow users to prevent creating duplicate schedules or to verify the existence of an expected schedule before beginning work.
