Do you have an idea or suggestion based on your experience with SCOM? We would love to hear it! Please take a few minutes to submit your idea in the one of the forums available on the right or vote up an idea submitted by another SCOM customer. All of the feedback you share in these forums will be monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building SCOM. We have already added some of the feedback we received through the TAP program and the recent SCOM survey.

  1. Subscription & alert integration + better formatted email support.


    1. Method to view a history of triggered subscriptions, email, command channel or otherwise.


    2. Include some data about a triggered subscription into the alert that triggered it.


    3. more options to create better formatted email based subscriptions, and include monitor product knowledge etc.

  2. Automatic agent remediation when servers grey out

    Automatic agent remediation when servers grey out. This one's a no-brainer. If the server's accessible by remote share then the agent is probably reparable.

  3. Subscription: SMS channel. Text message field 160 characters limit

    "Text message" field is limited to 160 default characters. That's right if you are filling the field with the actual message. Most of us are filling this field with OpsMgr variables.
    The $Data[Default='Not Present']/Context/DataItem/ResolutionStateName$ is 67 symbols long, but in the actual SMS message in most cases this will be 3-8 symbols. This limit often prevents us from creating a good and descriptive SMS alerts...

  4. Linux discovery for list of servers

    When you discover Windows servers you can paste a list of servers into the dialog box. This doesn't exist for Linux. Only option is to add devices one by one, or to do a network discovery.

  5. Search when picking rules for dashboard

    When you are creating a performance view for specific rules, you are presented with this huge list which has no specific naming convention. Using the same dialog as the rules for notification might help.

  6. Allow users to create subscriptions

    Once an admin has defined channels and subscribers, allowing users to create their own subscriptions will result in a more flexible notification schema and will free admins of this task.

  7. Better agent failover configuration options.

    Better agent failover configuration options. Maybe leverage resource pools to build failover associations.

    i.e. An agents failover association would be automatically managed by a failover group. A failover group could be a resource pool just renamed with a prefix. The agent would point to a primary management server. That primary management server would exist in a failover group with all other management servers that service that failover group. The failover object can be built by looking up what failover group an agents primary management server is in and then using all servers in that group minus it's primary management server

  8. Incremental search in dialog boxes

    There are many "drop down" boxes used in the scom console. When clicking on the box such as a "class" dropdown, if I know I want to select "Windows Computer" I can only type "W" to get to that section of the list, then have to scroll and find the item. It would be nice to be able to continually type either the beginning or substring of an item and have it go to that specific section. eg. "Windows com" would either take me directly to that item or very close. Right now as soon as I would hit "Wi"…

  9. Resolution state - allow for more than one that is considered closed

    When you create a new Resolution state, for example, I have one that is "Closed by Incident". I use this to show the ones that have been closed by the technician from the incident, and leave the Closed ones to show ones closed by the Health State returning to healthy.
    Problem with this is that the Closed by Incident alerts are not groomed as SCOM doesn't recognise them as Closed.

  10. Make all Wizards the same

    Some wizards have a finish button, some have a close button. Why are they different? The console is soo slow, I would prefer the last button to be "Execute and Close" but it would at least be nice if they were all the same.

  11. authoring template sort by "Created" column

    in the authoring space, looking at the monitors created by Management Pack Templates, if I try to sort by the date in the "Created" column, it only sorts on the first digit. that is to say 1/15/2017 comes before 9/15/2012. also in typical Microsoft fashion, 11 comes before 3, so a monitor created in November of this year is 'older' than a monitor I created in March of this year.
