  1. Maintenance Mode Exit Health status not a New state change

When SCOM enters maintenance mode and then exits it will re-examine the health of objects and re-discover issues that have already been raised previously - causing more alerts. It should check previous state before maintenance and not re-alert for something that has not changed. Alternatively if the state of alert is changed to something like "Acknowledged" then it should not keep alerting or appearing as a "New" state change.

  2. Dramatically improve the presentation layer

This is the biggest issue when it comes to 'selling' SCOM to a broader internal audience, be they IT or beyond. It's so frustrating that, despite its capabilities, the arguments for it are always seriously undermined by insipid health, performance views and reports.

MP's should have out of the box views that really provide the wow factor. For example the tile views in the more recent SQL MP's are fantastic. The introduction of tiles in dashboards has been generally a boon but only compared to the paucity of decent visuals to date.

We need access to views that are designed…

  3. Monitor State View/Widget

It would be great to have state views/widgets which show the state of a particular monitor instead of the health of a class.

  4. Web Console - make Details pane resizable in Safari and Chrome on macOS

I'm using a Mac and open the web console of SCOM 1807 in Chrome or Safari. Clicking on a result in Results pane, I get only a couple of lines in the Details pane. Although I can drag and drop the grey line between the Results and Details pane, it constantly reverts to it's former position.

  5. ServiceNow ITSM Integration

A native SCOM to ServiceNow ITSM integration to enable creation of tickets to the correct support team with alert/incident being resolved from either end i.e. if an operator closes an alert in SCOM, the corresponding ServiceNow incident should also be closed, and likewise, if the Incident is resolved in the ServiceNow incident, the corresponding SCOM alert should also be closed.

ServiceNow has become a popular ITSM solution and the ability to close-the-gap between alert generation in SCOM and incident/ticket raising in ServiceNow without having to invest in a third-party tool is vital.

  6. Health Explorer: Grey out "Recalculate Health" unless a monitor has OnDemandDetection

Most unit monitors in MPs do not have OnDemandDetection implemented. Hence clicking on "Recalculate Health" in Health Explorer will not provide the results an operator might expect.
Please consider greying that button out should a monitor only feature RegularDetection.

  7. Event correlation capabilty

The ability to correlate multiple issues into a single root cause e.g. a hyper-v host goes down and the monitoring detects this and provides a single alert that shows that the host is down and what guests are impacted

  8. Remove All SCOM Disabled Class Instances

When a Discovery is disabled by Default, SCOM will not remove the class instances unless the discovery has an override which sets the parameter "Enabled" to "false".

The Command Remove-SCOMDisabledClassInstances should be able to remove ALL SCOM Discoveries which there isn't an active discovery for or at least have the ability to (Switch Parameter?)

  9. provide a way to select the Top N from a group when creating dashboards in 1807 Web Console Dashboard

currently within the HTML5 dashboards you cannot selecta large group and display Top N , this can be selected per user but does not save across different users.

Also when sorting columns with numerical values these need to be sorted numerically rather than as a string like being done at present

  10. Increase the Number of SDK/Console Connections to Operations Manger

Currently 50 SDK connections is the Max you can have to a Management Group. This limits certain larger customers to have to have multiple MGs in order to satisfy the number of console connections via Web Console, Thick Console or SharePoint Webparts. For instance, I have a customer that needs to have 3 Management Groups to allow all the SysAdmins console connection capabilities (Roughly 120 Console Connections). It becomes a SCOM admin nightmare to try and manage 3 MGs.

  11. ManagementServerInitiatesConnection fixin SCOM 2012 ?

This issue has been corrected in SCOM 2016 UR4 :

After a network outage, the management server doesn't reconnect to the gateway server if the gateway server was installed with the /ManagementServerInitiatesConnection=True option.

The issue still exists in SCOM 2012 R2, Is it coming in Update Rollup 15 ? Thanks

  13. Have an OM commandlet to delete a SCOM agent

Have a OM shell commandlet that deletes a SCOM agent (like right-click Delete in Management, Agent Managed Computers), something like this: Get-SCOMAgent –DNSHostName "server01.contoso.com" | Remove-SCOMAgent

  14. Real time monitoring for troubleshooting purposes

Sometimes need to get the same monitoring data trata comes from MP but in real time as perfmon gets. A troubleshooting tool or add- in that get the same data in real time for a short time.

  17. The ability to add (& override) custom alert fields (1-10) associated with monitors, and not just rules

These are easily available in the "Configure Alerts" section of the "Create Rule Wizard" dialog box (via "Custom alert fields..." button), but is nowhere to be seen in the "Create a unit monitor\Configure Alerts" wizard's dialog box.

  18. Write perf.data to DB when alert has been raised.

It would be great to see the current value of a perf.counter in the perf.views (and reports) when an alert has been raised independently of the perf.collection rules schedule and data optimization setting.

Then the discussions about the difference would finally come to an end.

  19. All rules and monitors should have a trigger count before alerting

A lot of errors that are triggered is because there are some short disturbance (network, latency etc) in the Environment. In order to keep "false" alerts down you should be able to set a trigger Count before an alert is generated. For instance an alert should'nt be generated before a rule/monitored has triggered three times. Default value should be one but all rules/monitors should have the possibility to change.

  20. Have a contextual performance widgets out of the box available for dashboards

We've seen wonderful new Management Packs as the new SQL MP & Exchange 2013 MP.
Using their own Visualization Management Pack to show contextual performance widgets in their dashboards.

It would be nice if we had more of this new visualization out of the box available, not only for performance but also in general for state views as Exchange 2013 uses.

Some custom examples are already out there from Wei Out There (and they are so cool :)) :
