  1. Custom author role can't use MP Templates

If you create a custom author role, users in that role can't use the MP Templates, only MP Objects.

(In that case the users are advanced Operators as well)

  2. Web Test created in VS should run internally as well

Currently we could create web tests in Visual Studio and run them from agents in GSM, but it works only for public facing web sites. That would be awesome for internal use as well.

Microsoft would offer a new great feature to SCOM and would have the opportunity to sell more VS Ultimate Editions ;-)

    Thanks,
    Patrick

  3. Add PowerShell cmdlets to create views, rules and monitors in SCOM

Today, there is a measley three PowerShell cmdlets for making new items in SCOM. The only thing we can do with PowerShell is make a New ScomLocation (pretty useful, I will admit), and make a new Management Group connection, or a new resource pool.

That's it. There is very little useful scripting support for SCOM. If you take a look at ConfigMgr, there are more than 100 cmdlets for making new items! This needs to change.

My vote is to first create cmdlets to support making new rules, then new monitors, and finally new views.

    The syntax should be something…

  4. VSAE cvs export, not only import

VSAE now can only import csv files. I think it should export to. It will be very great

  5. Do not show all the folders for Authors

If you use a customized author role with no selected views and folders the user in this role (and only in this role) still sees all folders (empty) in the monitoring pane.

  6. Provide the ability to add variables to the subject line of an alert

I created rules to alert when users were added to Domain Admins, Schema admins etc. The company wanted separate subject lines per group. A simple Subject: [USER] added to [GROUP] would have prevented me creating loads of individual rules.

  7. Powershell commandlet to create rules.

You can "get-scomrule" but not "set-scomrule". I had to create a lot of rules recently and it took ages. (This would have been mitigated by being able to add variables to the subject line of an alert)

  8. When importing a mpb the console keeps a lock on the file, making it read only, which

When importing a mpb the console keeps a lock on the file, making it read only, which means I can't recompile via VSAE. The only way to currently remove the lock is to close the console.

  10. Ability to create group of objects constrained by another group

For dashboard authoring it would be useful to have a authoring console method of defining dynamic groups which are constrained by membership of another group, for example "All logical disks associated with an Exchange server role". I know it is possible to do this by editing the XML within a management pack http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2010/09/09/how-to-create-a-group-of-objects-that-are-contained-by-some-other-group.aspx , but this can be quite time consuming

  11. Improve authoring experience and delegation for end-users

Currently all authoring has to be done by SCOM Admins. Even if you try to give users access through the Author role, basic templates are not available for those users.
Only SCOM admins can use the MP templates. I think you'd better create a more intuitive and improved standalone Authoring Console and add more MP templates there for creating MP's from scratch. This way more users can benefit from the possibilities in SCOM, rather than having the whole organization depend on the time and capacity of the SCOM guys.

  12. Large groups editing crashes SCOM

When you have a large group with either a large amount of Dynamic Members, Explicit Members or Excluded Members. SCOM freezes and crashes on you, and only saving half of the changes you made, if it saves at all.
Is there away to make SCOM not crash when you are working with large groups?

  13. Improved WMI query bulding functionality

When creating WMI-based performance rules & unit monitors, provide the "triangle" button in order to be able to specify any of the workflow's target properties (or hosted) when building the WMI query. Queries running agents hosting multiple instances of a targeted class (ex.: Logical Disk) will require that we filter the WMI query using the "WHERE" clause. For example:

    WHERE DeviceID = '$Target/Property[Type="MicrosoftWindowsLibrary!Microsoft.Windows.LogicalDevice"]/DeviceID$'

Note that the button is available when building Windows Performance-based workflows (Object & Instance fields).

    Thanks

  14. operations console advanced or expert view

Operations Console Advanced or Expert view
I would like to have an option to use the Operations Console in advanced or expert view. This view will allow the advanced operator to do things like being able to view the underlying SQL query that was used to generate the particular state view or alert view for example. Right-click view to show the SQL query. This will allow users to run custom queries against the database for building custom web views or to learn some of the techniques that were used to generate the views. I find it faster to query the…

  15. Update the 2007 Authoring Console tool

The 2007 MP Authoring Console for SCOM 2008 R2 was a very easy to use GUI driven tool. I know I can use MP Author, Visual Studio, etc...but this tool was SO much more intuitive and easier for MP authoring and editing. We need a 2012/2016 version to work with the new MP schema of 2012 MPs.

  17. Agent Discovery Data: CreateDiscoveryData accepts on source and target directly a GUID

CreateDiscoveryData accepts on source and target directly a GUID not only a COM object. To create Containment or Reference Relationship It is not every time possible to get all Primary key of an object that is not hosted on the target machine. The Best thing whould be that the scom agent has nativly the ability to query the scom Server like with the sdk.

  18. Easy way to create an override ("buddy") pack, named CORRECTLY, from within the "Override Properties" screen.

All too often I see sloppy unsealed/custom miscellaneous MPs named something like "contoso - Windows Server custom stuff" or "operations server team", and in that MP will be overrides for various workflows which are defined in various separate management packs thus creating numerous dependencies, which is the opposite of best/recommended practice for storing overrides. I suggest adding one or more of the following features:

    1) In the Override Properties window->Select destination management pack, upon clicking "New..." , auto-populate the Name: field with a properly spelled/titled MP name suggestion based upon the name of the base MP for the targeted workflow.…

  19. Extend Java Discovery and Monitoring beyond Java Enterprise

Currently Java backed monitoring leverages the "beanSpy" application to expose the Java Management eXtension for the running application hosted on services including JBOSS, etc.

However not all business applications are hosted on these platforms, but instead run natively on the JVM interpreter. These applications continue to expose their monitoring details via JMX and should also be monitored from SCOM. Attaching solutions like Jolokia to the runspace will expose JMX to HTTP/JSON which can be easily consumed, or beanspy could be updated to accomplish similar integrations.

  20. To integrate an option in Authoring pane to create custom classes

There is no option to create classes in SCOM 2012 authoring pane. We have to use MP author or other third party tool or do a manual xml editing. It would be nice if we have a way to create custom classes in SCOM authoring pane it self.
