  1. Make SCOM all functionalities working in a full Kerberos environment

Make SCOM all functionnalities working in a full Kerberos environment

We have implemented NTML restriction in our AD envionment because of a prioritized recommendation in the Azure AD Security assessment : Place privileged users in the Protected Users Group. The protected users groups provides additional security, because users can only authenticate using Kerberos (everything else is blocked) and hardenning is applied to the Kerberos authentication used by enforcing AES encryption.
BUT placing privileged users in Protected Users Group or implementing authentication policy to restrict usage of NTLM on admin accounts make SCOM loosing some functionalities.

  2. Microsoft Learn - Learning Paths / Modules for SCOM

SCOM as a product can be somewhat difficult to learn, mostly because of insufficient learning material or courses for existing/new users/customers. I have personally received many comments and questions about SCOM being a difficult and complex product.

Although there are a lot of great community blogs and materials out there, it may still be spread out abit everywhere and difficult to come by.
So I thought of a Microsoft Learn, which is a free, interactive, hands-on training platform that helps people develop in-demand technical skills related to widely used Microsoft products.

I think Microsoft Learn modules for SCOM could be…

  3. Agent task initiation fails if ANY object is grey (when multiple objects selected)

    Steps to reproduce:
Multi-select a group of objects/targets. Example: Agent (from Agents by Version state view)
Launch Task: "Flush Health Service State and Cache"
Symptom: Task initiation will fail for ALL targets if any one object is grey.

This is incredibly annoying when selecting large groups of objects as it is incredibly tedious to scroll through the sluggish Console to UNselect any grey items.

  4. Option to allow SCOM Admins to grant Advance Operators the ability to view other AO's Maintenance Schedules

Provide the option for SCOM Administrators to allow roles such as Advanced Operators to view but not edit existing maintenance schedules. This functionality would be beneficial to some customers as it would allow users to prevent creating duplicate schedules or to verify the existence of an expected schedule before beginning work.

  5. It would be great to see the built-in Service Monitor template expose overridable parameters to include frequency and samples.

It would be great to see the built-in Service Monitor template expose overridable parameters to include frequency and samples.
Currently the built-in service monitors are hard coded to (2) Samples and (30) Seconds, so after only (1) minute of the service being down an alert will trigger. If we could expose the parameters to override and customize the samples and frequency it would be helpful.

  6. Update the SCOM installer to incorporate group managed service accounts.

Presently, GMSA accounts are handled after the fact. The problem arises when a user decides to add a SCOM management server AFTER they have setup GMSA. This forces them to keep the original service accounts, effectively defeating the purpose of GMSA.

  7. Red Hat 8 needs to be supported in SCOM 2016 ASAP!

Red Hat 8 needs to be supported in SCOM 2016 ASAP. It is not acceptable to not provide an MP that covered RHAT 8.
If we moved to SCOM 2019 we'd loose the ability to monitor our existing RHAT 5 and 6 servers so would be in an even worse situation that we are now with 2016.

  8. Use the Perl RegEx engine everywhere in SCOM

Modify the RegEx engine leveraged by the expression filters (& possibly elsewhere in SCOM) from the .NET Framework RegEx engine, to the Perl engine that is leveraged by the group calculator module. Doing so would bring the following benefits:

    1 - Consistency in the interpretation of regular expressions throughout SCOM;
2 - A more flexible experience using regular expressions in the context of expression filters, as the Perl engine offers support for RegEx functionality that is not available with the .NET Framework engine, such as the support for certain "Character Classes" (ex.: \d for digit) & "Assertions" (i.e. [Negative] Look(ahead|behind)).

  9. Implement a way for immediate SCOM agent data purge

The current way for immediate agent removal is not supported via SCOM SDK, but involves some SQL tweaking, in order to cleanup the database in advance from remnants of the object. The reason is that all discovery workflows should pass (on their respective schedule) before all references to the objects are removed. More details here: https://kevinholman.com/2018/05/03/deleting-and-purging-data-from-the-scom-database/

  10. Ubuntu 20 is not yet supported in SCOM 2019.

Ubuntu 20 was first released in April 2020 but is not yet supported in SCOM 2019. The number of servers migrating to Ubuntu 20 has increased a lot in the last months and we don't have it monitored by SCOM. You should provide it urgently

  12. Change heartbeat healthy monitor on unix agents

Situation: When the unix agent state is grey and agent is down.
Then when you start the agent you have to wait the 2 full cycles of the heartbeat (default 2 every 630 sec) before the agent becomes healthy in scom, even when the 1st heartbeat check is succesful.

Why wait 2 cycles for switching to the healhy state? Go to healthy after the 1st successful heartbeat check.

  14. Make scheduled maintenance mode follow DST

Scheduled maintenance modes are off by one hour every time we go to/come from Daylight Saving Time, requiring manual editing of all the schedules.
Kevin Holman created a very useful script to workaround that issue, but it still need to be ran every time we change time.
The scheduled maintenace mode should be able to adjust automatically to DST!

  15. Add option to generate Information severity alert for Maintenance Schedule status (or add event to management server event logs)

    Hello,

I was wondering if an option could be added to generate an alert within SCOM for when a Maintenance Schedule window begins and/or ends, either when creating/editing a Maintenance Schedule or adding a rule (disabled by default) which can have an override to generate this alert.

Alternatively, add a specific event to the Operations Manager log on the management server(s) which provides information on the Maintenance Schedule status change (Not Running > Running). This would improve the ability to automatically notify stakeholders of planned maintenance activities. It would be possible to achieve this by monitoring changes to the underlying…

  16. dhcp failover relationship errors for mulitple domains.

I'm getting a similar issue with this link below.

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/lync/en-US/5ac86044-3aae-49a0-a15f-d20a8a53377a/scom-2012-r2-ems-event-26004-unable-to-open-the-dhcpadminevents-event-log-on-computer-in-other?forum=operationsmanagergeneral

It looks like Microsoft never looked into or have a way to work around DHCP servers outside of the domain that SCOM is in.
There are various reasons why SCOM is unable to access a dhcp servers, firewall (because of security design), or different domains ( because of various requirements).

We should be able to move this monitor for the Windows Server 2016 DHCP Failover Relationships off of the main management servers (rms emulators) and onto another server like the gateway servers.

  18. Include all libraries needed for Azure MP in Gateway package

Including the needed libraries would eliminate the need to install Console on gateways before using these to run Azure MP workload.

  19. how to get a scsm service request to close a scom alert

I am able to get SCOM to create SCSM incidents fine. I am able to convert the incidents to service requests fine. I need to figure how to work the service request and complete it then have that close the scom alert. Anyone have any ideas on how to do that?

  20. SCOM 2019 UR1: AppAdvisor and AppDiagnostics with Edge

AppAdvisor and AppDiagnostics fail to load with Edge as the browser.

It fails with the following errors:

Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.0 or higher is required for Application Advisor.

Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7.0 or higher is required for Application Diagnostics.

This functionality should be fully supported in Chromium-based browsers. With Internet Explorer being phased out, I'm a little surprised to see this.
