All of the feedback you share in these forums will be monitored and reviewed by the Microsoft engineering teams responsible for building SCOM. We have already added some of the feedback we received through the TAP program and the recent SCOM survey.

This forum (General Feedback) is used for any broad feedback related to SCOM.
Be specific on your feedback. The more specific, the easier and quicker for us to review. Please be concise!!

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Provide examples (sample code) for SCOM 1801+ REST API

    Hi,

since 1801 SCOM offers a REST API. That is great and I'd like to leverage it for some cross platform scenarios.

Unfortunately the examples (currently just JavaScript and related to alerts) don't help me.

Please add examples (sample code) in PowerShell , C# or provide Swagger compatibility.

    Many thanks

    Ruben

        • After Management Server removal, some orphaned objects remain

After the deletion of a management server according the description in https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh456439(v=sc.12).aspx some objects will remain
Those objects can just get deleted through manual operations in the database. ==> Custom SP dbo.sp_RemoveObjectByTypedManagedEntityId
The Health Service Watcher Object always remains after deletion.
This behaviour is reproducible with SCOM 2012 R2 and SCOM 2016

          Expected Behavior
The customer expects that if he strictly follows the step-by-step instructions to remove a management server from the management group, nothing should remain somewhere, neither in the database nore in the filesystem, registry or somewhere else

          Analysis
I reproduced the problematic behavior in two different environments…

          • Bug in Windows Server Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) 2016 Management Pack

The ADFS 2016 MP is alerting "The AD FS configuration database that is stored in SQL Server 'false' is unavailable." Alert is false positive when using non-default sql port (servername, portnumber). Hence when trying to ping the "servername" string returns a bad syntax. A fix in the script used by the MP to delimit the "servername" and ping the name before the comma ","

            • Alert history is not updated correctly from within widgets

The alert history is not updated when the resolution state of an alert is modified from within an alert widget.
In our case we have a dashboard with two alert views. Our ops guys use the context menu to set specific resolution states on the various alerts. That kind of action is not recorded in the history information of the alerts. However, it gets recorded when doing the exactly same steps from the default alerts view. Or by opening the alert and changing the status in there directly.

We had opened a premier ticket and were told that this is…

when the MP for 365 generates an alert it includes the incident number and the portal url, we'd like it to include a direct link to the incident within the portal.

Office 365 Incident Active Incident TM143856: Service degradation for Microsoft Teams (ServiceDegradation) https://portal.office.com/ServiceStatus/ at the moment someone has to connect to the url login and then find the details for the incident. We'd like the MP to provide a link directly to the incident details.

                • DFS Replication Management Pack

Many Enterprise organisations are still reliant on File Services such as DFS-R and need to effectively monitor it. With no new release of the DFS Replication Management pack to support Windows Server 2016 and 2019, Organisations are failing to monitor key parts of their infrastructure, with failures affecting hundreds of users.

Please provide further support for DFS-R Monitoring

                  • Make the SCOM Console Windows Stop Disappearing

Working in the SCOM console, when closing a window the console will occasionally disappear. You have to go to the task bar to find it and re-select the window.

To reproduce this; First make sure the SCOM Console is full screen. Then click on an alert created by a rule. In the alert details, open up the rule by clicking on it.

                    Then click Configuration, and View.

                    Then close both windows.

                    The SCOM Console will disappear.

                    • Update SCOM to support CNG key stores

Currently, even the latest version, 1807, does not support the use of CNG key store based certificates. This goes against Microsoft best practices of not using CSP key store based certificates. ADFS began support in version 4.0. Even SCCM now supports it as of its latest version. This makes this product unusable in environments requiring CNG certificates.

                      • Change the Alert Source target in the Custom Alert wizard so you may select any alert source for the view.

Change the Alert Source target in the Custom Alert wizard so you may select any alert source for the v iew. Currently only alerts with a source of "alert" are available. Otheralerst have different sources and should be available in this view. If you select all alerts you see them all. If you select all sources in the wizard you do not.

                        • Incorporate Alert Correlation tehniques into SCOM

We have multiple SCOM servers and management group and our service desk constantly ask why when there is a problem with a server or service do we get so any alerts. Can we only display a root cause or an aggregated alert with the subsequent alerts attached. E.g. A high level alert with all other alerts display underneath this generic alert?

The Alert properties should contain a custom field for the impacted service like Exchange Online, SharePoint Online,.... In this way, customized alert views can be created for a specific O365 service by using the custom field in the alert criteria.

                                    • Install prerequisites automatically if missing

Please just provide the option and bundle the prerequisites for IIS / Report Viewer / CLR stuff and whatnot you might require during setup. This can easily be bundled with Setup software and releases a lot of administrative overhead

                                      • Authoring tools - please create extension for VSCode

Hello! I think it would be great if you created VSCode extension that adds to authoring of Management Packs - features like intellisense, class definitons and so on. I guess VSCode would be a nice tool to edit XML files, if it had proper definitions.

                                        Thanks!

                                        • 1807 Web Dashboards bugfixes & improvements

When building Topology widget HTML5 dashboards with 1807 I noticed :

                                          - there are 2 sizes "state icons" to choose from, but the "small" size is not selectable. => is a bug ? --- 3 sizes would be even better

                                          - these "state icons" are not consistent types, some are .png, others are .svg = work in progress ?

                                          - the 'white' marking inside the icons is not white but transparent ! placing them on a coloured background image changes the color of the white 'x' or 'v' = bug ?

                                          - any ability to manage the background images used…
